REO Dr Josh Kanhai Joins Residents to Commission New LCDS-Funded Conference Hall at Kamarang/Warawatta

Region Seven REO Dr Josh Kanhai joins residents of Kamarang/Warawatta for the commissioning of the community’s new LCDS-funded Conference Hall in Upper Mazaruni.

The Kamarang/Warawatta community marked an important milestone with the official opening of the Kamarang/Warawatta Conference Hall, a new community facility made possible through investment from Low Carbon Development Strategy (LCDS) funds.

The facility represents the practical impact of Guyana’s carbon-credit revenues being channelled into Indigenous communities to support locally identified development priorities.

Under LCDS 2030, Indigenous villages receive a share of carbon-credit revenues to finance community-driven projects and investments.

The new conference hall provides a dedicated space for community meetings, consultations, training sessions, cultural activities and other important gatherings, strengthening the community’s capacity to come together and advance its development priorities.

The investment also demonstrates how LCDS resources can be transformed into lasting community infrastructure, with decisions on village investments guided by the needs and priorities identified at the community level.

The opening further reflects the development agenda of His Excellency President Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali and the Government of Guyana, which continues to place emphasis on expanding opportunities and improving infrastructure and services in hinterland communities.

Set against the rich Indigenous artwork displayed on the building, the Kamarang/Warawatta Conference Hall stands not only as a physical structure, but also as a space for community, culture, dialogue and development in the Upper Mazaruni.
