President Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali has held high-level discussions with United States Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick in Washington, D.C., aimed at expanding American investment in Guyana and strengthening bilateral trade and economic cooperation.
The discussions, held on Wednesday, October 21, focused on investment opportunities in oil and gas, infrastructure, agriculture, housing, technology and artificial intelligence (AI).
President Ali said the engagement also explored opportunities to position Guyana as a gateway for trade with South America and establish the country as a regional data centre hub.
According to President Ali, “Yesterday, I held substantive discussions with U.S. Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick in Washington, D.C, focused on expanding American investment in Guyana and strengthening our commercial partnership.
Secretary Lutnick reaffirmed the United States’ strong interest in continued investment in Guyana and its recognition of our country as a valued partner for growth and prosperity in the Americas.
We explored opportunities for renewed oil and gas exploration, infrastructure development and improved connectivity to position Guyana as a gateway for trade and commerce with the wider South American continent.
Our discussions also focused on investment in agriculture and housing, leveraging U.S. expertise to create jobs, strengthen food security and expand opportunities for Guyanese families.
We further explored U.S. support for developing Guyana into a regional data centre hub, advancing artificial intelligence and technology, creating opportunities for Guyanese professionals and businesses, and positioning our country as a major player in the hemisphere’s digital economy.
This partnership reflects our shared commitment to long-term investment, economic diversification and sustainable prosperity for Guyana and the wider region.”
The engagement underscores Guyana’s efforts to attract international investment, diversify its economy and strengthen economic cooperation with the United States.
