The Guyana Fire Service has confirmed that the building housing Regent Household and Electronics in Georgetown was completely destroyed by Wednesday’s fire, despite firefighters successfully containing the blaze and preventing it from spreading to nearby structures.
According to a statement from the Guyana Fire Service, they responded to a fire yesterday, September 9, 2026, at Regent Household and Electronics, Lots 143–144, Georgetown.
Upon arrival, firefighters encountered the building fully engulfed in flames, with the fire threatening a nearby structure.

Seven firefighting appliances were deployed from the Campbellville and Eccles Fire Stations, as well as Fire Service Headquarters.
Through swift and coordinated firefighting efforts, the blaze was brought under control and prevented from spreading to nearby structures.
Unfortunately, the building and its contents were completely destroyed.
Firefighters remain on the scene conducting mopping-up operations.

Smoke may continue to emanate from sections of the structure due to the presence of highly combustible materials and residual heat within the debris.
The Guyana Fire Service is therefore urging members of the public to avoid the immediate area and allow firefighters to safely complete their operations.
An investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the fire.
Further updates will be provided as information becomes available.
