President Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali has been awarded the Medal of Honour of the Consejo Empresarial Alianza por Iberoamérica (CEAPI) in Madrid, Spain, in recognition of his leadership as Guyana undergoes significant economic transformation and pursues sustainable and diversified development.
The award was presented during President Ali’s first visit to Spain, with CEAPI describing the recognition as acknowledgement of his leadership and Guyana’s efforts to transform its rapid, oil-driven economic growth into broader and more sustainable development.
During his visit to Madrid, President Ali also met with Mayor José Luis Martínez-Almeida, where discussions included the impact of sports tourism on cities and countries.
The President also visited the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, home of Real Madrid, as part of his engagements in the Spanish capital.
Additionally, President Ali gained insight into the management and maintenance of the world-class sporting facility during the visit.
The engagements formed part of the President’s visit to Madrid, which also provided opportunities to strengthen Guyana’s connections with Spain and the wider Ibero-American business community.
