𝗕𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗹𝘀, 𝗕𝗲𝗹𝗴𝗶𝘂𝗺, 𝟱𝘁𝗵-𝟵𝘁𝗵 𝗢𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲- As part of the week’s activities during the 2026 EITI Global Conference, Minister of Natural Resources and Champion of EITI, Hon. Vickram Bharrat, on Monday 5th October, participated in a Parliamentary Roundtable under the concept note, “Strengthening parliamentary oversight of critical minerals governance.”
The Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) promotes open and accountable management of oil, gas and mineral resources.

The roundtable participants engaged and discussed targeted questions which were followed by a moderated exchange and strategic responses from partners.
Parliamentarians play an important role in ensuring that the mineral sector contributes to sustainable development and responsible supply chains, bringing public accountability to shape key decisions, legislation and provide oversight.
This roundtable focused on EITI’s role in supporting parliamentary engagement in the extractive sector and explored how parliamentarians can use EITI disclosures to strengthen oversight of critical minerals governance.

It also examined how selected emerging policy frameworks intersect with EITI priorities and the work of legislatures in EITI implementing countries.
Providing opening remarks for Monday’s session was the outgoing EITI Board Chair and former Prime Minister of New Zealand, the Rt Hon Helen Clark.
