The Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) continues to address water supply challenges across the North Rupununi, Region Nine, through infrastructure repairs, well maintenance and community engagements focused on El Niño preparedness and water conservation.
According to a statement issued by GWI, its technical team has been conducting visits to several communities as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen water supply resilience and address infrastructure needs amid prevailing dry conditions.
The communities visited include Fair View, Surama, Wowetta, Rupertee, Kwatamang, Annai, Aranaputa, Yakarinta, Toka and Massara.

GWI reported that recent interventions included the replacement of a four-inch valve in Annai Central, repairs to leaks in Kwatamang and maintenance of wells in Wowetta and Yakarinta.
The utility company indicated that these works form part of its continued efforts to address infrastructure concerns and support reliable water supply systems across the region.
In addition to the technical interventions, GWI disclosed that its representatives held discussions with Toshaos and Village Councils in Annai Central, Yakarinta and Wowetta to address water supply concerns and promote responsible water usage.
According to the statement, the engagements focused particularly on the importance of water conservation during the prevailing dry conditions, as well as community preparedness for the potential effects of El Niño.
El Niño weather conditions can contribute to reduced rainfall and prolonged dry periods, placing additional pressure on water resources, particularly in hinterland communities.
GWI reiterated its commitment to addressing water infrastructure needs through continued technical interventions and community engagement, while promoting conservation practices to strengthen water supply resilience across the North Rupununi.
