Returning from his official State Visit to Qatar with renewed confidence in Guyana’s future and its expanding international profile, President Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali has reaffirmed his government’s commitment to building a stronger, more resilient, progressive and prosperous nation.
Speaking at a press conference on Monday, President Ali said Guyana is now the “talk of the town” on the global stage, as he pointed to growing international interest, advancing partnerships and major development opportunities that he said must ultimately translate into tangible benefits for Guyanese households.
The Head of State said his government will continue working to ensure that Guyana’s global standing is not only extraordinary but also one that inspires pride among every Guyanese and translates into meaningful, tangible benefits for households across the country.
“We are focusing our attention on the task of building a strong, resilient, progressive, [and] successful Guyana,” President Ali said.
“Guyana is the talk of the town, and this country is on the rise and on the move, and my government is going to ensure that Guyana’s position globally and Guyana’s position regionally is not only extraordinary but also one in which all of us will be proud.
More importantly, the people of Guyana, every household, will surely, most definitely, see not only enormous improvements in their personal lives but also enormous policies and programmes that will enhance their ability to own more things and, of course, advance their own lives.”
Above all, President Ali placed national unity at the heart of his administration’s mission, stressing that beyond the projects, investments and international successes, his greatest responsibility remains bringing the people of Guyana together around a common vision for the country’s future.
With conviction, the President declared that he and his administration will unite Guyana “like you have never seen before,” underscoring his determination to build a nation defined not by division, but by shared purpose, opportunity and progress.
President Ali also stressed that as Guyana’s stature continues to rise regionally and internationally, the true measure of that progress will be reflected at home, in stronger communities, greater opportunities, improved lives and a country in which every Guyanese can see themselves as part of its success.
Reinforcing the strength of his commitment to national unity, President Ali said, “I will upturn every root of hate, every obstacle of betrayal and advance the one unify Guyana.”
Describing the engagement as a “wonderful state visit with Qatar,” President Ali added that the visit had further strengthened his belief not only in Guyana’s potential but also in the direction in which the country is heading.
He explained that the visit also advanced several important projects and investments that Qatar is pursuing in Guyana.
More significantly, the President noted that discussions also progressed on establishing a financing framework that would bring together government-to-government funding while integrating international financing.
According to President Ali, the proposed mechanism is expected to support the accelerated implementation of major transformative national projects with regional and global significance.
Moreover, he indicated that the results of those engagements are expected to become more visible in the coming days and weeks, while expressing confidence that Guyanese should take pride in the progress the country continues to make and the growing level of international interest in its development.
While expressing immense pride and optimism over the opportunities ahead and the potential benefits for Guyanese, President Ali also sounded a cautionary note, acknowledging that the country’s progress is not always matched by a shared sense of national purpose.
According to him, “In the coming days and weeks you will see the fruits of thy labour, and I can assure you as a country we should all be proud of the type of strides and progress we are making; but of course, not all of us have country at heart.
So that pride may not necessarily be felt by all, and that’s unfortunate, but as President I have to accept such unfortunate souls and positions.”
As Guyana continues to expand its international partnerships and position itself for a new phase of development, President Ali’s message was ultimately one of confidence, ambition and national purpose.
While pointing to the country’s growing global recognition and the major opportunities expected to flow from engagements such as the Qatar State Visit, the President made clear that development alone will not define Guyana’s success.
He also emphasised that he and his administration will do their utmost to ensure that progress reaches households, strengthens communities, and unites citizens around a shared vision for the nation.
For President Ali, the road ahead is therefore not only about building infrastructure, attracting investment and expanding Guyana’s international footprint, but also about ensuring that the country’s transformation is accompanied by unity, inclusion and a stronger sense of collective pride in what Guyana is becoming.
