After last year’s disappointment, the Guyana Amazon Warriors played an almost perfect game in the finals against the Rangpur Riders, securing the GSLT20 trophy and restoring Guyanese pride and joy.

With an atmosphere charged and brimming with anticipation long before the first ball was bowled, the packed stands and grass mound were adorned with a spectrum of green, gold, and red.

Appreciating the vibrant artwork on people’s faces and the blending sounds of horns, one cannot help but be grateful for the President of Guyana, Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali. His powerful vision symbolised a united nation, bringing together both the Guyanese and the global community through their shared love for cricket.

Investing in a sport that embodies the true essence of T20 cricket, the president provided an opportunity for the Warriors and the international teams to display their skills through stunning boundaries and remarkable diving catches.

This served as a testament to all sportsmen, demonstrating that with passion and discipline, their team can achieve victory.

The final over of the GSLT20 perfectly captured the essence of the tournament, with 32 runs needed for victory and only two wickets remaining.

Guyana’s beloved cricketers rose to the occasion in true Guyanese style. Shimron Hetmyer set up the win with a stunning catch, while left-arm spinner Gudakesh Motie delivered a brilliant delivery to claim the last wicket.

Rangpur Riders were bowled out for 164 in 19.5 overs.

The sky was ablaze with a dazzling display of fireworks as players shared heartfelt embraces, enveloped in a moment of pure joy.

Fans radiated genuine happiness for a team that feels like family to them. This victory embodied the result of hard work, emotional challenges, and bold visions. It marked a moment that elevated Guyana beyond being just a host, highlighting the country as a capable host and true spirit of the cricketing world.

After today, the world will forever remember the Guyana Amazon Warriors, the people, the hospitality, and the president, who together achieved the GSLT20 victory in 2025.

With respect for the contributions from all team members throughout the tournament, fans expressed to The El Dorado Beacon that they particularly enjoyed the spectacular performances from the captain and player of the tournament, Imran Tahir; top-class left-handed batsman Shimron Hetmyer; one of the best left-arm spinners, Gudakesh Motie; and one of Guyana’s best bowling all-rounders, Romario Shepherd.

As Guyana celebrates its victory and looks ahead to the GSLT20 in 2026, the nation is already buzzing with anticipation for the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2025, scheduled to take place from August 14 to September 21, with the finals set to be held at the Guyana National Stadium in Providence.
