Preparing young Guyanese for opportunities in a low-carbon economy was the focus of a seminar hosted by the Guyana Chamber of Commerce and Industry on October 1, 2026, under the theme “Building Skills for a Sustainable Future.”
Dr. Pradeepa Bholanath, Senior Director for Climate Change and REDD+ at the Ministry of Natural Resources, spoke with students and teachers from several secondary schools about Guyana’s Low Carbon Development Strategy (LCDS) 2030, the transition to a low-carbon economy, and related employment opportunities.

The discussion covered Guyana’s commitment to 250,000 low-carbon and green jobs, as well as areas such as forestry, biodiversity conservation, sustainable tourism, renewable energy, environmental management and climate technology.
Through presentations, videos and group activities, students considered environmental challenges and the skills that may be relevant to future employment.
The programme also discussed the role of technology, innovation, internships, scholarships and training opportunities in workforce preparation.
The session linked LCDS 2030 with education, skills development and career planning, while highlighting the role young people can play in Guyana’s low-carbon development.
