The Barima/Waini Cricket Association has been formally incorporated into the constitutional structure of the Essequibo Cricket Board (ECB), marking a significant step towards strengthening cricket development and expanding opportunities for players and clubs in Region One.

The decision, approved during an ECB Special General Meeting in October, brings the association’s 20 affiliated clubs under a formal administrative framework aimed at improving coaching, competitive cricket, talent identification and organisational development.

The move is expected to provide greater access to structured cricket programmes and competitions, while creating additional pathways for talented players from hinterland communities to advance to regional and national levels.

Under the leadership of Chairman Sherlon Rodrigues, the Barima/Waini Cricket Association has already made progress in developing cricket within the region, with several players advancing through the Essequibo cricket system and earning opportunities to represent Essequibo and Guyana.

Among the achievements highlighted by the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) is the selection of Alia Henry to participate in the West Indies Under-19 cricket camp, reflecting the potential of emerging talent from Region One.

The GCB welcomed the association’s formal inclusion in the ECB’s constitutional structure, recognising the development as an important milestone in expanding organised cricket beyond traditional playing centres.

The Board also commended ECB President Deleep Singh and his executive, along with Rodrigues, the Barima/Waini Cricket Association and its affiliated clubs, for their collective efforts in securing the milestone.

The incorporation is expected to strengthen cricket administration in Region One, support the continued development of its 20 affiliated clubs and provide a more structured pathway for aspiring cricketers to progress through the Essequibo and national cricket systems.
