-Hailing Him as “The Greatest Legend of Modern-Day Politics in Guyana”

His Excellency, Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali, in an admirable display of appreciation and heartfelt emotion at the beginning of his campaign speech, paused to honour one of Guyana’s greatest sons and champions of democracy, Vice President and General Secretary of the People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C), Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo.

While honouring the architect of the modern Guyana, the distinguished mentor, the tireless champion of the earth, and the visionary leader who stood firm alongside the political legends of the past, President Ali explained that the voice of Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo has given Guyana decades upon decades of selfless service.

According to him, the Vice President has always been a “steady, stable and secure voice for the people of Guyana.
Today, my greatest honour is to be given this opportunity, which is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to share the stage with the greatest legend of modern-day politics in Guyana; that legend is our General Secretary, Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo.”

He also reassured Guyana that he and Dr. Jagdeo will continue to share the stage and serve for the rest of their lives, explaining that their partnership may not always occur under the same circumstances. Still, they will always be a constant for Guyanese.

“One thing that you can guarantee is that as long as we have life in our bodies, we will share the stage for our people,” President Ali said.

A visibly appreciative and humbled Vice President received and thanked President Ali and the people of Guyana for the recognition.

Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo’s political journey began decades ago, rising from humble beginnings in Unity Village to become the youngest Head of State in Guyana’s history, later serving as President from 1999 to 2011.

He remains a pivotal force in shaping policy, championing climate issues internationally, and steering the strategic direction of the PPP/C.

For many supporters, President Ali’s tribute was seen as more than just a political gesture—it symbolised a moment of national contemplation on leadership, loyalty, and the lasting impact of service.

President Ali also expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to share the stage with the leaders of the past and present, including Dr. Cheddi Jagan, Janet Jagan, Roger Luncheon, Sam Hinds, Donald Ramotar, Prime Minister Mark Phillips, and Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Governance Gail Teixeira, who have dedicated their time and energy to Guyana.
