– Reaffirms Government’s Commitment to Communities
During the government’s recent outreach in Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam), Minister of Labour and Manpower Planning, Keoma Griffith, stated that the initiative was designed to strengthen ties with communities, promote economic development, and reaffirm the government’s commitment to youth empowerment and public service.
Speaking with The El Dorado Beacon at the Anna Regina Stadium, Minister Griffith emphasised the importance of capitalising on such opportunities to engage with residents across the various regions and throughout Guyana.
He noted that these engagements allow the ministry, and by extension the government, to better understand the needs of citizens and identify ways to continue serving them and their communities.
According to Minister Griffith, the visit to the region, while centred on the commissioning of the Anna Regina Stadium and the new airstrip, also served as an opportunity to celebrate and connect with residents of the Essequibo Coast and Pomeroon communities.
He also added that, as with every other region, the administration recognises the positive impact and benefits these investments will bring to the people of Region Two, including the expansion of commerce and the enhancement of the regional economy.
Meanwhile, Minister Griffith continued to urge young people across the country to empower themselves by making full use of the opportunities available within their respective regions, especially through the Guyana Development Bank (GDB).

“After I spoke with the young people in the lower Pomeroon, I felt very happy that many of them approached me afterwards and expressed interest in learning more about the Guyana Development Bank and the qualifications needed,” he said.
“I was happy to encourage them. As a young man myself and speaking to my fellow young Guyanese especially the ones that are living in Guyana, I want you to know that we are living in the best time of this country’s history, where opportunities are so rife.
So, let us make full use of them; it is a blessing for all of us.”
Additionally, Minister Griffith emphasised that, while there is always room for improvement in all aspects of life, he is pleased to serve in a government led by someone who genuinely understands and seeks the best for the people of Guyana.
He further stated that the government’s primary aim and commitment has always been to ensure that the residents of every community feel recognised and that their concerns are addressed.
According to him, “This government, led by President Dr Irfaan Ali, will go down in history as one that has prioritised service to the people, as we are currently demonstrating in Region Two, and I am proud to be a part of this journey.
Our objective is to meet with citizens, listen to them directly, and understand how we can better serve their needs.
It is a privilege for us as a government to serve the people of Guyana and to be welcomed into their communities.”
The minister also explained that while public service is their responsibility, it is not something they take lightly or for granted.
The two-day outreach in Region Two underscores the government’s ongoing commitment to direct engagement with communities, fostering economic growth, and empowering young people through accessible opportunities such as those offered by the Guyana Development Bank.
Minister Griffith’s remarks also highlighted a renewed focus on service, inclusivity, and responsiveness to citizens’ needs.
As the government continues its efforts, the message is clear: partnership between leadership and the people remains central to Guyana’s progress and prosperity.
