Minister of Public Works, Bishop Juan Edghill, conducted a series of early-morning site inspections across active project zones in Region Four, alongside senior technical engineers from the Ministry and executing contractors, to assess project timelines, verify construction quality and compliance, and address other challenges raised by the teams managing the projects.
The site visits encompassed several critical main access roads, beginning with the UG Road and Dennis Street corridors, where ongoing works are transforming routes that have become major transit points.
In Sophia, the inspections focused on the ‘E’ Field and ‘B’ Field projects, where dilapidated main access roads are being transformed into durable concrete and asphalt pavements, complete with integrated concrete drainage systems to improve flood resilience and enhance internal community access.
Minister Edghill and his team also inspected the LBI Estate Road, which is undergoing comprehensive structural upgrades along the corridor linking the Public Road and Railway Embankment.

The improvements are intended to accommodate increasing traffic generated by surrounding new housing developments and commercial expansion.
Throughout the inspections, Minister Edghill re-emphasised that strict quality control and adherence to project delivery timelines remain non-negotiable.
He also addressed identified site defects, emphasising that these must be remedied by the contractors without any additional cost to the public.
As the Ministry’s technical officers continue to conduct material and field testing of asphalt and concrete mixes to ensure long-term durability, contractors have been urged to intensify their efforts to meet established timelines.
Contractors whose completion periods have already elapsed have also been instructed to take every necessary measure to ensure the projects are completed at the earliest possible time.
Upon completion, these corridors will form four-lane carriageways expected to alleviate traffic congestion, improve traffic flow and establish more efficient routes, thereby strengthening the integration of the wider road network.
These active project sites reflect the Government’s broader modernisation agenda, which is focused on addressing severe traffic bottlenecks, improving internal community accessibility and developing robust secondary road networks to support expanding economic and residential activity across Region Four.
