The Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development welcomes ongoing efforts in Region Seven to strengthen environmental management and promote cleaner, safer communities through Litter Warden Training.
The training, facilitated by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), is equipping participants with the knowledge and professional standards required to address littering and unsightly premises in a fair, lawful and structured manner.

Participants are being exposed to the Code of Conduct and Enforcement Procedures, with emphasis on legality, proportionality, fairness and integrity.
The programme also provides guidance on a standard field approach to observing violations, engaging residents, assessing situations and following through with the appropriate action.
Training also covers the Penalty Framework and Escalation process, which allows for a graduated response to violations.

This ranges from education and verbal direction to statutory notices, clean-up orders, fixed penalties and, where necessary, prosecution or urgent enforcement.
The initiative forms part of continued efforts to strengthen institutional capacity at the regional level while encouraging greater responsibility for the cleanliness and upkeep of communities.
Regional Executive Officer Dr. Josh Kanhai and the Regional Democratic Council of Region Seven continue to support initiatives aimed at improving environmental management and empowering residents to play an active role in maintaining cleaner and safer surroundings.
Cleaner communities require both effective systems and responsible action from all of us.
